Giles, you can build up your strength slowly, gradually....can you get one of those things that look like pedals on a bicycle, where you can sit in a chair like when you are watching TV, and pedal on that piece of equipment. You can start out pedaling for 15 miutes, at any speed that is managable for you, and keep a record of how long you are able to do so comfortably....then gradually increase your pedaling, length of time as well as speed of pedaling....you will build up your stamina that way, in the safety and comfort of your own home, and then after you get stronger, you can venture outside for SHORT walks. If you have access to a pool or a hot tub, you can sit on the shallow end and just do swimming motions in the water with your arms.....you can do some kicks with your legs....take it easy,,,,you arent in training to swim a marathon!!
