He is never outside alone and is always close enough to scoop up if we see danger (I have chickens and they alert when something bad is nearby). I can't imagine anyone just letting their small dogs outside unattended (I won't even go into the invisible fence part of the discussion )
Very scary! I was standing at the end of our driveway when a small chicken hawk buzzed my head and nailed a squirrel right in front of us. I love birds and owls, but they are definitely a threat to our small dogs.

I have posted many times before about our neighbor's Yorkie who was attacked by a hawk and nearly died. The Yorkie is over 9 pounds. Birds of prey will attack dogs that they cannot necessarily carry away. I'm so nervous about the birds in our neighborhood that I don't let the boys out on the 30' leashes anymore.
