We have had Heidi for 3 weeks now, she is smart, happy, playful, eats & drinks well, her weight (3 lbs 7.5 oz) which we think is good for 11 weeks old and everything in the potty department is working well. Heidi seemed very healthy until a week ago when she had her 2nd set of shots. I'm not positive that being vaccinated is the cause but it seems odd that we never noticed anything wrong with her prior to the Injection, HeartGuard, Advantage & Kennel Cough. But since Heidi received all the above last week she is encountering these episodes about 8-10 times during the day. We have not noticed any signs while she is sleeping. I have taken two videos of her episodes (it won't let me attach them to this post) where she seems to go to another place, vibrates briefly (only a few seconds), her head goes up & back and then everything is back to normal. I took her back to the vet last Thursday to have her checked out, and the vet was lucky enough to be watching her when I asked her to sit and was about to give her a treat for being so smart when she had one of her episodes in front of him. The vet has not seen anything like this and he said that he has never heard of anything like this happening to a Yorkie after vaccinating, the vet gave me 4 doses of vanectyl-p to see if it will help. To date Heidi has taken 3 doses and her episodes have continued, and she now is congested, sneezing and this morning when she woke up she had a bout of which sounded like she was having trouble breathing, this to passed quickly, she does have a little bit of a runny nose. The vets office said they will call Monday morning to follow up with me. Has anyone else encountered this with their little ones and if so what is it and what should I be doing? HELP!!!!! I hate seeing my precious little girl going through this
This seems llike an awful lot of meds to be given all at once to a small, young puppy. For starters, I do not believe in giving Kennel cough vaccine....it is notorious for giving the puppy kennel cough, if it was the nasal drops that were given. That is a live virus they use and the pup can get KC from the drops. Vets dont like to admit to it, because some people (myself included) then think they should treat the disease they gave my dog, with antibiotics, no charge! Unless you are going to have that baby boarding or grooming, I would skip the KC vaccine, and if you insist on giving the vaccine, then I would give the shot. Your baby is too young to be out in public anyway, so I would not give the KC again.....it is only good for 4-6 months anyway and needs to be repeated....I dont like it at all. The protection you get from Heartgard and Advantage can all be accomplished with Revolution, except certain ticks I think...they have a puppy formula for youngsters....I send all my babies out on Revolution, simply because I have had many dogs in the past have adverse neurological issues with flea protection/flea collars, etc....twitching, shaking, stumbling around, etc, so I do not use any of the flea "drops" ....I get it all taken care of with one drug, Revolution. You MUST be sure you apply it directly to the skin, or it CAN be ineffective.....I have used it for a long time and never had an issue with a dog having heartworms! DO NOT LET THIS VET GIVE HER ANY MORE VACCINATIONS UNTIL SHE IS OVER WHAT MAY BE THE KENNEL COUGH SHE HAS .....nake sure she is well before you give her any more vaccinations. Take her in on Monday....she can get pneumonia from this....it can take several months to clear this up.
