Very important: DO NOT assume that because she is on-leash and you are right there with her that the hawk will not take her. They will.

Their method of killing is to fly up with their prey then drop them from a height. Depending on how the prey lands, it may or may not survive the fall.

Hawks and owls have razor sharp claws, which will do more initial damage than the beak.

If you have a small yard, you can install a grid of fishing line to cover your yard, in 2 ft increments. The fishing line will reflect light (which will deter the predator) and the grid should physically stop the approach.
