Default Guidos Car Seat

Guido's car seat looks like a blue one I got for Taffy! I saw it at Pet Smart "on sale" for $36.00, but then, I saw 2 of the same car seats at TJMAXX for $25.00, so, I bought one there. It has a top strap that goes over the passenger seat's head rest, and then there is a strap at the bottom edge that snaps closed behind the passenger seat-back to keep Taffy's car seat from sliding from side to side if Taffy moves around in his car seat. I can easily raise how high up his car seat is by a sliding buckle on the strap that goes over the head rest. Taffy will look out the window for a while and sometimes curls up in his car seat for a nap. There also is a short leash attached to the back of this car seat that I can fasten to his "safety harness"...which has its metal ring on the dog's back. .you can also clip the car seat's leash to Taffy's collar, but my friend who has a dog said the safety harness that attaches by its ring behind the dog's back is safer. She told me if the car stops suddenly, the dog could get thrown forward and get his neck broken if the leash is attached to the regular dog collar! Oh, dear!
The wider harness that goes around the chest and fastens on the dog's back will pull the dog's weight back evenly across his whole torso if he gets thrown forward, instead of just jerking his neck...which could break his neck! I had not thought about using a car harness until I saw my friend fastening her bigger dog onto her car's back seat. She has a long seat blanket and Tucker has a chest harness attached to a short leash fastened to a back seat belt. She explained she leaves that chest harness in the car and just puts it on Tucker when he rides in the car. When she stops the car, she unlocks the harness and fastens his regular leash to his dog collar and then, she just has him hop down out of the car on his leash! I found a wide, padded yellow chest-harness in a small size that I use on Taffy for his car seat. He can still move around with the car seat's leash fastened onto the ring on the back of the harness. I just unfasten the harness when we reach the park or wherever we're going, and I snap his regular leash onto his dog collar, and I lift him out and set him onto the ground...off we go! It just takes an extra few seconds to put on his padded chest harness, but I feel he is safer for having it on. It might save his life if he ever got thrown forward. You can spot these safety harnesses...they are not made with simple thin straps, the straps are thicker and some look padded!
