Dog New Puppy Jack -- Some Questions!

Hey Everyone,

I will try to break this up into succinct understandable parts. I just got my puppy Jack 7 days ago. He will be 6 months old on the 8th of this month, and is bursting with energy. I am having some issues with a few things.

1. Barking in the crate- This behavior started a few days ago, he went from being quiet in his crate all night to sporadic bouts of barking. These episodes of barking can last upwards of 15 minutes, or as little as 5. When he persists with the barking, I was taking him out to go potty, but he just wanted to play. It is worth noting that during the night, he had not had an accident. I do not want him to learn that barking means I let him out. Should I just ignore the barking and only take him out at the designated potty times? Why would he go from quiet to barking and crying? He was fine before, it has me confused.

2. Potty time troubles- He does not seem to have any idea that outside is the time for potty. Besides giving him praise and treats when he goes outside, and sticking to a schedule, can I get some advice? Last night I walked him for 40 minutes, and he refused to go. We were not back in the house 5 minutes and he had pooped and peed on the floor. I am at a loss as to how to let him know that outside time is potty time. Any experienced puppy people have some sage wisdom?

3. Peeing in the crate- I work all day, sadly. I go home around lunch time to let him out to potty. He is not left in the crate for more than 5 hours at a time. Yet, every time I go home he's had an accident in the crate. He can hold it from 1:00am - 6:00am without an issue. But going during the day is a problem. I did notice yesterday that when I looked at the wet blanket there were actual droplets on his fleece, not just a wet mess. Perhaps he is excited when I come in and pees on himself then? Any advice on what I might be able to do?

Any comments or insights are greatly appreciated!
