 Teaching puppy to catch treats?
I've been trying to teach Lola (6 months) to catch treats because of a game at a local pet store, but it isn't going well.
I've tries using cut up soft buddy biscuits, chicken, and 1/4 of a cheez-itz.
I've tried dropping the treat, tossing it, and doing the tossing motion a few times and then tossing it.
Her focus is on the food, but she doesn't get that she's supposed to catch it. She just lets it hit her or fall by her feet.
I tossed a piece about 5 times and didn't let her eat it, did it twice over 2 sessions, and she just got frustrated. I gave her the treat for sitting when I was done.
My cousin's dogs catch treats, she didn't teach them, they just do it. Maybe I should try having her watch the other dogs? |
