I got the trainer through a place called "canine company" . They seem to be a chain & I don't know if all of their trainers are as good. What she did looked so simple & I have no idea how it worked so quickly. She had me put a leash & harness on Stan & sat on the floor with him. She held the leash so that he had to face her when she called his name. When she spoke to him & he looked at her, she "rewarded" him by then allowing him to turn his back on her. She explained that she was showing him that he was under her (or my) control, and that nothing bad would happen to him even though he couldnt run away. She told me that as soon as she let him go he would run to me & follow me everywhere & that's EXACTLY what he did. She explained that in addition to his fearfulness, he was acting like a "Brat" who needed to know he was NOT in control. She explained the the leash exercise taught him that he was safe even though he had to give up control. I'm really not sure why it worked so well, but I'm really thrilled with the results!
Stanley has always been teriffied of my oldest son, but tonight he allowed my son to pick him up without a chase!
