I followed this rule also and used the divider so that it allowed just enough room for Sophie Kate to turn around. Now that she is a older and trained I no longer use the divider but I do use the crate from times when we are not home and it will be longer than 1-2 hours (Sophie Kate does not get free roam of the house when we are gone any longer for her own safety, she is kept in the kitchen area with a gate)
