You can typically tell if an infection is present from a blood test/white blood cell count. If her white blood cell count is in the normal range, then it's unlikely she would have a respiratory infection. Have you tried that yet? If it is normal, then personally, I would get an xray done. That way, your vet will be able to see if there's something unusual going on in her chest area & you'll be able to get timely treatment.
Is the soft spot getting any bigger or smaller yet?
