Things to consider when caring for a small dog:

1. Puppy/baby proof your home. Make sure there are no choking hazards or toxic hazards within reach, including houseplants, medications, and food. Put electrical cords where they cannot be chewed.

2. Make sure the dog doesn't have access to doors to the outside to prevent the dog from bolting outdoors and getting lost.

3. If you have a yard, check to make sure that there is no way to escape. I would recommend keeping the dog in a harness on leash just to be safe.

4. If you have stairs, make sure the dog can't fall or jump through the railing.

5. Never leave a small dog unattended on a bed, chair, or countertop. Keep your hand on the dog at all times to prevent jumping or falling.

6. Have your sister write out what the dog eats and stick to it. Don't offer any other food. Have your sister bring her regular food with the dog.

7. Have vet and emergency vet numbers handy.

8. Have your sister bring the dog's bed and toys, crate and xpen. An xpen is really handy for when you can't supervise closely or while sleeping.
