Whenever I see USDA certified, I think of pigs, cattle, chicken...basically people who have herds of livestock...and dogs are anything but livestock.
On this kennels website, they've got 20'ish dogs they are breeding. I am guessing that they haven't done health tests on all/any of these dogs...and I am not talking a vet visit...I am talking eye, hip, lp certs, BAT testing etc etc. I'd imagine being lucky enough to find a few dogs that pass all of those certifications is rare and hard to do....let alone having 20 dogs that have passed them. Not to mention that it would have cost them around $20,000 to certify those dogs...
If I paid $1300 for a dog(which is what she's got her puppies listed as), you bet your bottom I'd want to see the breeding pair championed and I'd make sure they passed all of their genetic/hereditary testing...because for that much money, I KNOW I can buy a pet quality dog from a reputable, RESPONSIBLE breeder who is breeding to better the breed...who is doing/passing health certs....who is going to give me a healthy puppy...and giving me more than a year long guarantee.
A lot of people take their puppies to the vet as soon as they get them and think that because the vet deems them healthy that day, that the dog was bred good and won't have any problems on down the road. NOT THE CASE!! It seems like this particular breeder is aware of this as well and that's why she's ONLY offering a health guarantee for a year!!! Many dogs don't show genetically passed health problems until later in life....so just because a puppy is healthy when it's younger, it doesn't mean genetic problems aren't going to arise when they are older.
