I live in the country and we have hawks too. They are very territorial and will come back for their selected prey. I never let Hannah or my 7lb. Chihuahua outside unless they are on a short leash right by me and then I'm still scarred. Pee Pads are the way to go. Once I had Holly (my Chihuahua) on my covered porch sitting right next to me and a Hawk kept cruzin by a stayed close in the trees. It was checking out my baby. They can come out of nowhere so please be careful. Usually they stick around in the same area. My sister has the same problem with a hawk that visits her backyard on a regular basis. She has a tiny dog too. I wish I knew what to do to keep them away.
