You need to take my comments about this with a "grain of salt", given that I raise/train my animals a lot differently than most here, but...
I alter my Females, but, not my Males...
Like you stated in your OP, their size and proportions are influenced by alteration, and their "attitude" as well.
I maintain a very traditional "Pack" environment, and having a "strong" Alpha Male is just what I want. I expect him to be very territorial and protective for me, my property and his Pack in general.
I will say that I can not speak for every unaltered Male, but, not altering them may lead to a less social animal, that many of the Users here would not appreciate, though it's just right for me.
