to me the only two safe ways to attach a d ring, is to sew it into the garment between the bodice and skirt, that is of course if it is a dress, or run a piece of fabric down the center of the bodice, and attached the d ring to the center of the bodice if it is a dress, or at the bottom if it is a vest.
