It could be a perineal hernia and YES, that could cause major problems. Whatever it is, it needs to be addressed. IF she needs surgery, I strongly recommend that you only use a board certified surgeon...it is a VERY tricky surgery as there are a lot of nerves in that area. A botch job can cause major problems including incontinence.
