My Maggie is 4 years old, and is still wearing a slightly modified puppy cut. It's definately shorter around the face (no pony tails for us). I think she's adorable!!!!!!!!
As for the name, I've had Maggie since she was a baby. She responds to Maggie, MaggieAnne, Mag-ster, Punkin' and Bounch. I certainly don't think that Zoe will have any problem with a name change! I think it may just be more about the tone of voice than the actual words you use to call them. (Although I know for a fact that there are certain words: kisses, ride, bath and baby box, that my Maggie understands VERY WELL!)
