I'm assuming both puppy and cat food are kibbles? If that's the case, you can also try soaking the kibbles in a bit of chicken broth (no sodium added).
If you just mix the chicken with the usual food, I'm thinking your pup would just pick out the chicken and not eat the kibbles anyway. Or at least that's what Zoey does. She's a bit of a picky eater. I usually add a bit of canned food with her usual kibbles. That way, she'd eat everything. LOL
