Please contact the police department, request to speak to the shift supervisor or better yet, like ladyjane said, the police chief. What these officers did was wrong and it put you in danger. Just because they didn't do the right thing doesn't mean the entire department is bad or that it was even proper procedure. If you don't speak up these officers will continue to do this to other people.

You were amazingly courageous and did the right thing to report this break in, now please continue being strong and report what these officers did and demand additional patrols for your house.
