I was pregnant in the summer of 84. This was the hottest summer in UK for years and I went to the beach at pretty much 2 weeks before due date. My mum was in Florida on holiday and I told her I was just back from the beach when she called.
I don't know why but she asked me what I wore and she nearly swallowed her dentures when I told her a bikini, she said "but sure everybody would see the whole shape of you"
If I had worn an army tent that day it couldn't have hidden my shape.
I remember I had to dig a big hole in the sand for my belly and was able to lie comfortably face down, I hadn't been able to do that in months.
I was only just 18 at the time though.
