I like the idea of bringing the carseat in the car and letting her sit in while you all are hanging out at home. My Sophie Kate has a Snoozer carseat and she sit in it now with no problem but at first it was a struggle to get her to stay in the carseat.
Another suggestion is to get a harness with the tether that clips into the seatbelt latch (they sell them at pet stores). We have one for Sophie Kate and we use that sometimes on long trips with her in the backseat.
Honestly, Sophie Kate does sometimes ride on my lap when I am the passenger but not when I am driving. She would be a huge distraction for me and probably would put me, herself and other drivers at risk.
