It is going to take a lot of work with the pup to get it trained. It is kind of dangerous for a dog that does not like to be groomed to go to a groomer. If the dog acts wild at the grooming salon the groomer could hurt her while trying to get the job done. I understand why someone may not want to do it since you really need a dog to cooperate when working on it.
Combing the dog at home at least a couple of times a day will help to get the dog to accept grooming. If your aunt starts out doing it for just a couple of minutes at a time and gradually increases the amount of grooming the pup will eventually accept it. If she is bad at home about being groomed she will be even worse at a grooming salon so your aunt needs to really work with her.
I understand she doesn't like to do these things but that is what training is about. Doing these things often on a regular basis will help the pup to learn. It won't happen quickly, it takes a lot of patience. I have worked with a lot of feral animals and basically a pup or kitten that has not been socialized early in life acts much like a feral animal in many ways. Being patient, kind and gentle is really important but being consistent is equally as important. |
