Sometimes it's just easier for the human not to have to keep putting the band in!

Boys can have top knots. Some boys have haircuts that give bangs so a topknot becomes unnecesary.

I keep a topknot in Lucy's hair. Mine are less than perfect, though, and many times lean a little bit to one side or the other (my kids call it the "side pony".)

The band has to be changed frequently though or the top of the head will mat. Many yorkies pull or rub them out. I don't like to make mine too tight and I don't like when the eyelids are pulled way up. That looks uncomfortable to me.

I use 3/8" bands - ordered online. I have a topknot scissor so I can remove a snarled band without pulling the hair. It's easy to keep a pup in a top knot if you're willing to keep up with it!

It's a personal decision. Not necessary unless you're showing the dog.

Good luck.
