Aspirin isn't toxic to dogs, but acetaminophen (Tylenol) is. Some vets use aspirin for arthritic dogs and for other reasons as well. The cautions are the similar as they are for people - ie, possible GI upset / tolerance etcetera.

Of course, you never want to give aspirin without approval from your vet .
