Most dogs are infected with coccidia...statistics say 70 - 80% of all kennels or people that raise puppies/dogs, coccidia is present. Coccidia is soo easily spread, from yard to yard, dog park to your yard, public walking areas where other dogs have walked to your yard....plus it is carried by birds, rabbits, mice, etc......Some dogs/puppies never have the symptoms of coccidia.....stress will cause the dog to "break" with symptoms (diarrhea, possibly vomiting).....this is very common in young puppies during the transition during weaning and also when they go to their new homes, they will break with it within a week or so, strictly from the stress they are going through. This is why I beg my new owners NOT to go changing up food as soon as they get the baby home. Most of my owners have left their babies on RC....they definately leave the food alone until they are a year old...then if they want to change their food they can safely do so without putting extra stress on the puppy.
