For the first haircut, I would definitely recommend the puppy cut. Tell them not to cut it any shorter than they need to in order to remove the matted hair, and afterwards, be sure to brush every day and use a detangler/conditioner when you give her a bath.

Oh, also check with the vet, because they usually want you to wait a certain length of time after a spay (a few weeks?) before you get a grooming.
