It seems like Yorkies are notorious for having bad teeth!! You definitely have to pay special attention to their dental care...more so than a lot of other breeds. I see lots of Yorkies on Petfinders who have had to get all of their teeth pulled out...some of them at a fairly young age...like 5 y.o. and then their poor little tongue hangs out, making them just that more adorable!!
I am wondering if anyone's tried the stuff you add to their water. It looks like mouthwash and comes in various brands. Or if anyone has bought the "plaque buster" that is advertised on TV?!? I am wondering if either of those work?!? |
So Princeton has had a total of 3 teeth pulled at age 10? I would say that is great!! I have heard of non anesthesia teeth cleanings. I have not tried them personally. However if you think Princeton will sit there and let them scrape, then it might be worth a try. I know Peanut would never go for that, that is why I never tried it! He won’t even let his own Mother brush his teeth!!
Since Princeton is overdue, can you call the Vet and see if there is anything you can do in the time being? Maybe he can try a non anesthesia teeth cleaning with a light sedation?? ( Just throwing some ideas out to you)
I have tried the mouthwash type stuff that goes in the water.. I honestly didn't see any improvement. I even have some tarter spray that doesn't seem to do much. I think it is just as you said “Yorkies are notorious for having bad teeth
