There are sprays for something like that... I think one was nature's miracle's "go here" spray. But to be honest, it's a hit or miss kind of thing. I've read some dogs actually like the odor and lick/roll on it. LOL It's about 10 bucks or so. It might be worth a try?
Have you tried working him out a bit before taking him out? I noticed with Magnus that he goes potty sooner after a workout or hard play. When he doesn't, he takes forever or at times, doesn't go and wait till I get home from work.
