Well, I finally figured out the problem. After watching the video kjc posted, I just noticed my ruffler is missing a piece! The sliding type blade on top with teeth that should grab the fabric. Its no wonder my fabric wasn't moving a stitch. Thx so much for the info and video. It makes so much sense now! Back to pulling thread I guess
