Thought it would be interesting to hear the course of events that led to your life long love of Yorkies!


When I got my condo, I dogsat my bro's 90lb lab/pit mix. She was a sweet girl, but SO stinky and BIG. She moved furniture when she walked around the condo, I couldn't just up and give her a quick bath either, it was a lot of work to bathe her and she always smelled SO bad! It made me realize if I wanted dogs in my condo they had to be little.

I always wanted a Shih Tzu, since an old boss of mine had one and it was SO cute! I did tons of research and apparently talked WAY too much about them because my mom & stepfather came home one day with a puppy! She's really cute, but I am SO glad I didn't get a Shih Tzu. I started researching other 'similar' breeds, small with hair instead of fur, etc... came across the Yorkie. Just totally fell in love with what I read and pics I saw. These dogs are fearless and funny!

Most people had the reaction that they are not real dogs. We are winning them over more & more though. My friends love the idea of being able to carry them around, take them more places due to their small size. Also, when we go on 4miles hikes and they keep up and do awesome, they are super impressed. I'm changing people one friend at a time! None have Yorkies yet, but a few have small dogs now and are totally in love with them. I think for OUR area, smaller dogs are easier and more accepted than large dogs. I would say that NH, MA, is not very dog friendly in general though!
