Like Deanna, I also use it as a conditioner, but a "leave in" after she gets out of the bath. I rub it on her known hot spots (rib cage and armpits). It's also great before bath on really matted areas. Rub a bit directly onto the mat and use your hands to break it apart. It will slip out fairly easily. I've found it works better than any detangling spray I've used.

Also you don't really need to melt it down unless you keep it in the fridge. It's a saturated oil, so if its on the counter during summer time (unless your house is freezing cold) it will already be a semi liquid/semi solid. We don't have ac here so in the summer it's basically liquid like regular oil.
