I will try to answer some of your questions with what I know.. My mom's Yorkie-poo has a hard time sleeping in her crate at night, so my mom has put her in her purse (she is so tiny her crate is so big it scares her) and then puts her on the bed til she falls asleep then moves it to the floor. Her dog is very much my mom's shadow, she goes to the bathroom she follows her, she goes to do laundry she follows her. Dog's sometimes pick their person and they will follow them no matter what. I don't think it is just the Yorkie breed, because my dad's Lab/Pointer does the same thing with him.
