I have never co-adopted but I have done co-adoptions. In almost every case it is with either someone who is elderly and they make arrangements for a son/daughter or neice/nephew to co-adopt in the unlikely case they are not able to care for the dog in the far future.
With our rescue part of the contract is a person cannot transfer ownership of any dog or cat adopted by us. We will work with them if for some reason they have to rehome the pet to a close friend or relative (basically we go through the entire adoption interview and reserve the right to refuse).
