I use pads for those times in between outside. Sophie Kate does not tell me when she has to go so we are on a strict schedule but sometimes she has to go outside of the schedule so that is when the pad is used.

Also they are a lifesaver during bad weather, if the pad is down and she has to relief herself she will use it.
