Having someone else train your dog is a waste of time and money. A person with little experience in properly training dogs needs to learn not only technique but also develop the manner and confidence needed to communicate with the pet. A dog can learn some behaviors but if the owner does not understand the dog's personality and how to work with it, those behaviours are going to quickly fall away.

Starting out training with a clicker and treats is fine but teaching a dog to respond to praise and developing a loving, trusting relationship as you do the other positive reinforcements will help wean him/her off the treats as they advance in the training. Training should always be fun for the dog.
