Yes, I would occasionally turn the clippers on/off without actually using them to get her used to the sound and eventually groom her at home. I groom my two because of all the horror stories I've heard about different groomers.
As for food, what are you feeding her now? I feed Acana, but there are several good kibbles out there. You just have to figure out what works for your pup.
