I know this is an old thread, but somehow I just came across it. I have a yorkie with GME, and I want to echo the comments from the breeder above. There is no way to tell if a puppy will develop GME! It is not thought to be genetic, and the exact cause is unknown! My yorkie came from a reputable breeder who has been breeding and showing many champions for many years, and has never had a yorkie with GME, and never heard about it from others in the industry. Our girl, Fancy, was shown for 2 years before she was given to us by the breeder so she could live as a pet and not a show dog. It was about a year and a half later that the GME surfaced. Fancy has been receiving treatment for a year and a half now and is doing wonderful.
Our breeder offered to take her back if we didn't want to pay for the MRI, spinal tap and injections. We said "no way!" Fancy is ours and we would never give her up!
My point in writing this, is that you cannot blame the breeder. Just because your puppy develops a medical issue, you cannot expect the breeder to throw money at you to cover the costs. It seems to me that this breeder did what she was able to at the time to help you, but you just didn't like the solutions that were available to you.
So sorry for your loss. GME is a terrible disease, of which not much is known at this time. I feel badly for you, and what you went through, but you cannot place the blame on the breeder. |
