When I let him out for a wee or poo he does go but then charges round the garden so fast into bushes etc I'm wondering if I should be taking him out on a lead to go toilet and then bring him straight back in.
Wouldn't bringing him in immediately after a pee/poop be a signal that outdoor fun is over the second he goes to the bathroom? I always try to make outdoor pees and poops something that really feel good for Cookie. After I tell her to go pee and she does, I'll tell her how good she is, how she's peeing outside like the big girls, I'll pet her, and then unhook the leash to either play with her or let her snoop around the yard (whichever she picks). Then after a successful potty trip she gets paraded around the house and everyone tells her how good she is for being a "pee-pee girl" or a "poo-poo girl" lol.
