My Meika had that type of hair in her first year, and I used thinning shears/scissors on her to trim a bit of the fullness out. Her coat became more silky after 1 year, so I let it grow out for a while. Then, I shaved her and have kept her back shaved since, with fuller legs, for easy maintenance and cuteness.
