I'm completely against using any kind of physical punishment (holding muzzles, flipping them on their backs, etc). It frustrates the dog and makes them not trust you. |
Nah, Cookie trusts me pretty well, but I give her lots of quality time playing and snuggling. She doesn't show any kind of fear to me and now we can play rough without her biting me. I tried substitution of the chew toy, leaving the room to end playtime, and time out in the crate over and over and it just never did anything to stop the biting. Believe me, I did not want to do the alpha dominance move, but she was biting everyone in the house and it worked like a charm. I guess I shouldn't recommend this move as a first, second, or even third option, but I had to go to this when nothing else worked. I also tried the finger in the mouth and stern NO in the post just above this one, and that also failed after many attempts.
