| Searching for information on YorkieTalk? There are a few tools that may make this much easier. Tags, the Search function & the Google Search on the bottom of every page are just some of the methods we all have available for our use. Tags can be a great tool in a Forum like Yorkietalk. I’ve noticed there's not a lot of info on when or how a tag can be used and people shouldn't worry about getting in trouble with tags when used appropriately. If you see a thread that would benefit someone else I strongly encourage the use of them. Tags aren’t meant to be used as insults but rather, to help someone else that may come along looking for answers to questions contained in certain threads. Admin said on 1/27/11: “Tags are used as another way for members to search threads or to search YorkieTalk. They can be useful for certain things, such as illness names or a particular Yorkie pedigree. Google may also put more weight into tags when they index our community. They are not required, but can be useful. It is a tool for the community to use as they see fit. Members can also search by tags as well, either by clicking on Search, then Search Tags, or this link: YorkieTalk.comForums - Yorkshire Terrier Community - Tags. We can see which member makes which tags. If they are inappropriate or name calling or belittling, action will be taken by a moderator or admin. We have suspended members in the past for using tags inappropriately.” There are a few ways to search for tags including the link Admin provided above (which shows the top Tag Searches in a Tag Cloud). You can also Tag Search through the regular way by clicking on Search & following to Tag Search. Attachment 389819 The Search function can be a bit tricky. If you’re looking for particular threads or posts written by a user you would open Advanced Search, type the username into the Search by User Name window & select either Find Posts by User or (by clicking the small down arrow on the right side of the drop down) Find Threads by User. You can select certain Forums or search them all. Additionally, a search can be done in any Forum for keywords using the Search this Forum drop down menu found under the page count of each Forum. Attachment 389820 Keyword Search is also found in the Advanced Search and is another fantastic tool if you’d like to look for threads containing specific words. Keep in mind, the normal Search functions only allow you to search back so far in Yorkietalk’s archives. Again, you can select certain Forums or search them all. Keywords can be tricky so be sure to try a few different ones. Attachment 389821 Some threads that have been archived can be found using the Google Search at the bottom of each page. To search Yorkietalk within Google, simply change the button to Yorkietalk search by clicking next to that parameter. Type in what you’re looking for & any threads containing your search term will be found. Attachment 389822 |
