The protein numbers can be confusing too because of the source, animal protein vs vegetable protein may affect the dog differently. Their protein needs also differ due to age, amount of activity, etc., so consider that in your choice.

One of my 4 dogs has a liver condition, MVD, so I feed high quality foods with lower protein and lower fat, which is also good for the other 3 dogs, as I am watching their weight. The good news is I have found a food that seems to work for all 4. BTW they are 4 & 5 years old and not real active.
