I'm trying to work on it now. Now when she squats down outside I immediately say "Go pee!" and then save the big praise until after. My brother, who rescues a lot of dogs from the shelter his GF works at, says what worked well for him was to put a bell at the door and then anytime one of his dogs had an accident he would take the dog to the door and hit the bell with a paw. But he said this was with adult dogs. I just wonder if a puppy knows he has to pee in enough time to do that, or if they might just have to go when the feeling strikes. Since Cookie whines and paws at her cage at night when in bed when she has to go out, I lean more towards the former I guess.
