The drive is inside.
In my opinion, nothing compares to Microsoft Word and Excel. I don't think Apple has a product like Excel, and their only word processing is more like MS Notepad.
I have Microsoft Office for Mac. It cost $130.00.
You can also run Bootcamp, which means you have Windows on your Mac, but still have to pay for MS Office.
