Wow, that's great news. Its good to hear that there has been some improvement with him !
Be sure that you are giving him tons of praise after each potty 1 & 2 let him know how happy you are with him. No treats necessary just lot and lots of praise. That is the way I have always done it. If you must save those treats for when you get back inside. Plus working with him to come to you when he needs to go potty will work wonders for a new pup who seems to be confused about where to go.
