It's not the over zealous show breeder that is to blame. It's the indiscriminate backyard breeder who breeds without thought to the overall health and well being of the breed. The quest to get the tiniest or the "whatever-est" by people who have neither studied genetics or the health lines of their breeding stock has resulted in many of the sick dogs we have today. Those less than ideal dogs are then bred to other less than ideal dogs to create mutts that now carry the faults of both breeds.
