I would suggest take a longer walk and encourage him every step of the way rewarding him with lots of praise every time he pees/poos. Than with a treat when you get back inside. Not outside or he may think that outside time means I get a treat and want to be out more than he is in.
You cant really blame him thou, he did warn you !!
