Only 5% of dogs that have been exposed to Lyme get sick. Almost all recover with a round of antibiotics (no, a round of antibitics is not particularlyhard on them). A few get an immune edited renal disease. This has more to do with labs and retrievers. And besides, there is concern that the vaccine itself can cause this.

There is question about whether the vaccine does any good if the dog had been exposed previously. Lyme vaccines for humans are not common because of concerns over serious side effect concerns.

The standard of care is tick prevention including thoroughly checking the dog's body daily.
This.

Jackson tested pos for it once after he was holding his leg up limping. On the first day of pain meds and antibiotics he was 100% back to normal. Round of antibiotics and he was good as new. He has now tested negative for 3 years.

My vet does not recommend Lyme vaccine for us and we are in a heavily populated tick area.
