We are not really supposed to keep in touch with the family that surrendered the dog. Once or twice is fine, and I have had families contact me after the fact, just to see how they are settling in, but I cannot let them know who the dog has been adopted to. Usually a day or so after the dog is surrendered I do email with some questions and sometimes after the dog is surrendered they do offer a bit more info on them. So it's not uncommon for rescues to not allow that.
