I kept mine uncrated when I was home, but still blocked her to only being in the same room as I was. Mine was the age yours was, and peepee pad training was the 1st thing we did since I had to work and she would need to know where she "should" be pottying at.

Your right about reading and getting ready for a pup, but it totally changes once the pup is with you! What ever you try to teach her, be consistent. Be gentle as possible and give a lot of praise for doing the right thing when asked. You're going to be a good yorkie mommy. Enjoy your new puppy, she won't stay in the puppy stage for long!
